First Post - Argentine CHJ

This is the first of many posts dedicated to the beauty that is the Culinary Handjob. We had to travel long and far (actually, it's only about a mile or two away from work) to experience one of Salt Lake's most authentic Argentine delicacies: the empanada.

An empanada is basically a stuffed bread or pastry. The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar, meaning to wrap or coat in bread. An empanada is made by folding a dough or bread patty around whatever stuffing you choose. In Spain, empanadas are usually large and circular in size and are cut into smaller portions for consumption, whereas in South America empanadas are normally small and semi-circular. Empanadas are also known by a wide variety of regional names. More information can be
found here.

Argentines do not believe in spicy foods. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Most of their dishes are quite bland and, as was attested to by JohnJob and JennJob, empanadas are no exception. However, they do fall nicely into the category of a CHJ due to their self containment and ability to satisfy you as an entire meal, if so desired.

All in all, and realizing that I'm quite bias because I lived in Argentina for some time, I think this particular CHJ is well worth checking out. The restaurant itself feels as if you stepped into a kiosko in the middle of Córdoba, the owners are originally from Uruguay and the location in Salt Lake all add to the authenticity of the experience. Check it out and let us know what you think!
